The Library Project.

22 August 2008 · Leave a Comment

Hong Kong – 13 June 2008

Pony tailed Tom Stader, is a driven young man. He set-up and launched The Library Project in 2006. Activ8 is pleased to be associated with The Library Project by running their ads as our default banners.  Donating this unsold inventory helps support the The Library Project’s fund-raising efforts and their mission of providing libraries to under financed orphanages and elementary schools in rural areas.

Tom recently spoke at Wed Wednesday in Hong Kong. He gave a very insightful outline of how, with help from friends and fans of The Library Project he has used the internet as a viral marketing tool to support fund raising activities.   In his presentation Tom outlined how The Library Project donates books and libraries to under financed schools and orphanages in rural areas by:

  • Getting the local community involved through book drives and awareness raising
  • Providing libraries to under financed orphanages and elementary schools
  • Partnering with local NGOs (charities)

On the Web Wednesday Hong Kong website there is a pod cast of Tom’s Library Project presentation.   Tom’s slide presentation is a great viral marketing case-study and a must-look for anyone interested in viral marketing.  Tom has done an absolutely amazing job on a shoe-string budget.  I urge you to add your support to to The Library Project’s fund-raising efforts.

Here is a Tom being interviewed by The China Business Network.

And, here is the The Library Project Facebook Group.

Hong Kong – 1 December 2007

Today we were welcomed aboard the ORBIS DC10 flying eye hospital which is in Hong Kong on a goodwill visit.  On 10 Dec 2007 it  heads to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  Not only is the ORBIS flying eye hospital aircraft equipped with the latest laser eye surgery equipment, a fully functional operating theatre and anesthesia recovery room for treating patients and for training local doctors, it host a full audiovisual editing suite that allows the volunteer medical staff to share their expertise with a larger audience assembled in the aircraft’s classroom.

Founded in 1982, ORBIS strives to eliminate avoidable blindness and restore sight in the developing world, where 90% of the world’s blind live. To date, more than three million people have received direct medical treatment and more than 124,000 healthcare professionals have enhanced their skills through ORBIS programs in over 80 countries.

At the heart of ORBIS is the world’s only flying eye hospital, a DC-10 wide-body aircraft converted into an innovative teaching facility and ophthalmic surgical centre. Many of the world’s leading surgeons, anesthetist and theatre staff donate their time to perform surgery and teach aboard the aircraft.

ORBIS have a long association with Hong Kong. In 1991 local businessman Y.C. Ho donated US7m of the US14m needed to purchase this DC10 aircraft. eMarketer: The Indian Internet

20 September 2007 · 1 Comment

Hong Kong – 18 September 2007

It may be only a sub-continent, but it is a mega-country. India is booming. The South Asian country has acquired de facto membership in the elite club of acknowledged nuclear powers, created more billionaires than any other country in Asia and become one of the world’s most dynamic and fastest-growing economies.

India’s economic boom is forecast to moderate in the next two years, with GDP growth slowing to 8.4% in 2007 and 2008 and to 7.9% in 2008 and 2009, from a record 9.4% in 2006 and 2007.

Online, the Indian government declared 2007 the “Year of Broadband,” setting a goal of 20 million broadband users in 2010.

However, according to the new India Online Overview report, eMarketer expects India to reach 10.5 million broadband households, or just over one-half the target, by 2011.

eMarketer also estimates that 25.5 million Indians used the Internet at least once a month in 2006 and expects India’s online population to reach 33.2 million in 2007 and 71.6 million by 2011.

Internet Users in India, 2006-2011 (millions)

With just 2.3% of its citizens online in 2006 and 2.9% projected for 2007, India’s Internet penetration is the lowest in the Asia-Pacific region.

India is often compared to China, but the number of Indians online is more comparable to Australia, a country with just 2% of India’s population.

Nevertheless, according to comScore, India is the world’s eighth-largest Internet population and its potential for growth is practically limitless.
